Silver-Plated Diamond Balls Lotus Flower Cage Pendant

This blossom opens upward. All the petals spring from a single point at the base and fan out — the central one tallest and narrowest, the outer ones broadest and lowest — so the silhouette widens as it rises instead of tapering the way most floral pendants do. That inverted weight is why the pendant sits so well on the collarbone: the eye is pulled up into the flower rather than down to a hanging tip.

Two details carry the design. Each petal is drawn as an outline with a long slot cut through its middle, which lightens the metal considerably and lets the ball's sparkle show between the petal and its own edge — at small scale that slotting is the difference between a crisp flower and a silver blob. And at the base, the ribbons tie into a small bow: two loops meeting at a knot, which both closes the blossom and gives the piece its base. It reads as a flower that has been tied rather than mounted.

Eight millimetres inside, 0.31in, and the pendant measures 25mm, 0.98in high including the bail by 17mm, 0.66in wide — the widest of this series, which makes it the one to photograph flat rather than at an angle. The two halves open apart on the hinge at the base so the ball can be changed, and our photography pairs the flower with blue, black, rose gold, lilac, light blue and aurora balls; lilac and light blue read softest against the silver, black reads most graphic.
