The heart on this pendant is a hole. Two long bands sweep down from the shoulders, taper as they fall, and meet at a single point at the bottom; the heart shape is what is left between them, and because it is open, the inner ball shows through as a heart-shaped pool of colour. Change the ball and you change the piece: a pale ball turns it quiet and graphic, a blue or a red one turns it into a statement, and no two customers will photograph it the same way. That is an unusually easy thing to demonstrate in a listing — fit two balls, shoot twice, done.
Above the heart sits the only ornament on the design: a curved band carrying a row of small beads, blackened in the seams between them. This is where the antiqued treatment earns its place. The high points of the two sweeping bands stay bright and reflective, the deep grooves between the bands and around the beads hold black, and the result is that the heart reads twice as strongly at arm's length as it would in plain polished silver. It also places the piece firmly in the antique direction rather than the bright-and-new one, which is the edit customers shop deliberately.
Copper with a silver plate and the recesses blackened, plated inside as well, so the finish is even where you can see it with the halves apart. It opens on a hinge with a side clasp and takes 20mm inner balls / 0.78in, the fuller of the two standard chime sizes, sold separately. All metal — no stones, no enamel, nothing to lose.
Angle for the copy: an open heart is a heart with room in it, which is a softer line than the usual gift language and works well for anniversaries, for a first piece after a long relationship, and for remembrance, where an open shape says what a closed one cannot.
