Product Description
The subject is a pair, and the whole design is built to keep them readable as a pair. The mother fills the greater part of the ball — body curved, head lifted, tail sweeping round — and the kitten sits small and close against her lower side, drawn at maybe a third of the scale. It is the difference in size that carries the meaning; a second cat drawn the same size would just be two cats.
Behind them the wings open outward, cut in overlapping bands rather than drawn as a single feather shape, so the pair are held rather than decorated. Everything else is kept quiet so the figures stay the loudest thing on the face: twin rope-twist bands in place of a plain rim, small openwork accents riding on the outer band, and round stones set in four-claw mounts at intervals around it, with the claws left standing instead of burnished flat. Polished bright throughout, no antiquing, so the shapes read by light rather than by contrast.
Inside it takes 20mm inner balls / 0.78in — the larger of the two standard sizes and the one with the fuller chime. The three-rod bail at the top takes a chain or a cord. Nickel-free and lead-free throughout.
