The pattern is nothing but hearts, at three different scales. Large open hearts carry the middle of the ball, each one with a smaller heart cut clean through it; small solid hearts sit at the joins where the surrounding arcs meet; and at the front, in a simple four-prong setting, a heart-cut white zircon is the only stone on the piece. Under gold plating the openwork gives a warm rim light on every lobe, which is what keeps a pattern this repetitive from reading as flat.
The stone deserves its own line. A heart-cut stone is more expensive to source than a round one of the same weight, because the shape wastes more rough, and it is the first thing a buyer notices in hand — the point faces down, the lobes catch the light at two different angles. We keep it prong-set rather than glued so it can be re-tightened rather than replaced.
Measurements from the size chart: 24.1mm / 0.95in ball diameter, 25.2mm / 0.992in overall width and height including the bail. The halves separate on a side clasp with a round hinge stud opposite, and it takes 18mm inner balls / 0.7in. Nickel-free and lead-free, and shown on a gold rolo chain in the photos, which suits the weight of the piece better than a fine trace chain.
